Marine megafauna research

Implementing marine megafauna research on the ground

We have a longstanding history of delivering marine megafauna research globally as part of wider advisory services or to support broader conservation management. This has provided baseline evidence for assessing risks to marine biodiversity, as well as for the design and implementation of monitoring programmes and to deliver marine net positive impacts.

Many of our research projects have focused on sea turtles, often providing new information in places that are not well-studied. Thanks to our global reach and ethos, we have established a global network of leading experts that support our work on the ground. We also help to improve capacity by creating opportunities for local people to support our projects, whilst at the same time, offering our clients access to local skills and expertise.

We also collaborate with organisations that help us to develop, implement and share new research techniques and tools.

Sea Turtle Nesting Beach Indicator Tool

One of the key tools we share is the Sea Turtle Nesting Beach Indicator Tool, which we developed in collaboration with sea turtle experts from the University of Exeter. The tool can be used to rapidly assess suitability for nesting based on habitat components and the level of disturbance.
