About Bluedot

A marine biodiversity consultancy advising organisations globally

Since being founded in 2011, Bluedot has been at the forefront of addressing risks to marine biodiversity and delivering nature positive contributions.

We advise at the site- and corporate-level, working across sectors to offer advice that helps our clients achieve positive outcomes for marine biodiversity, people, and planet.

We are committed to providing more than just a service – we aim to create lasting, meaningful change. Our passion for marine biodiversity drives us to make a real difference in our projects.

One way we demonstrate our commitment is through directly funding positive actions to restore the blue dot we call home.

Our pillars

We take a conscious and ethical approach to our work. We combine scientific understanding with a deep commitment to local collaboration, and we believe that projects must be rooted in local knowledge and involve communities on the ground. This is reflected in our three guiding pillars:

We integrate local knowledge and engage with communities to deliver work on the ground. This includes supporting local studies, building capacity, and creating long-standing relationships through research and mentoring.

We are committed to leaving a positive, lasting impact through our projects. This involves collaborating with local networks and fostering a sense of local ownership.

We innovate and implement better approaches for managing marine biodiversity impacts. This includes developing and sharing new guidance and tools and delivering advice that benefits both clients and biodiversity.

The reason for our focus

Biodiversity is in crisis. The urgent need to halt and reverse biodiversity loss and create a nature positive future is a core focus of recent global policies and calls to action. Sustaining and improving planetary health and resilience requires integrated approaches to addressing the joint nature and climate crises. Society and businesses are responding by changing behaviours and adopting new or additional commitments to deliver positive outcomes. Our dependencies on nature are becoming more widely recognised. There is a growing awareness that the health and wellbeing of people are deeply connected to nature, and actions must aim to be both biodiversity-positive and people-positive to be effective. The biodiversity crisis spans all realms, driven by the same key threats. Over 70% of the planet is covered by the oceans and seas; and this is where a significant proportion of our biodiversity, known and unknown, resides. Bluedot was created to provide specific expertise and knowledge to help organisations understand how they may impact marine biodiversity, how to manage these risks, and identify what opportunities exist to take actions that create positive outcomes for marine biodiversity and people.
