The Sea Turtle Nesting Beach Indicator Tool has been developed by sea turtle experts from Bluedot and the University of Exeter. The tool can be used to rapidly assess and rank the value of beaches for sea turtle nesting potential where nesting may occur but is not well understood.
The tool provides indicative results on beach suitability for sea turtle nesting, with its primary uses being to support biodiversity screening, strategic assessments, and initial conservation planning. It should not be considered conclusive evidence of nesting potential unless the field conditions determine that nesting can be completely discounted. Therefore, the tool should be used with the understanding of the need for follow-up surveys by specialists.
